MAIL SETTINGS
Mail Settings (IMAP / SMTP)
If sending/receiving does not work, verify the settings below. These are the correct parameters for AlterHosting servers.
IMAP (recommended)
- Server:
mail.<your-domain>
- Port:
993
- Encryption: SSL/TLS
- Username: full email address
- Password: mailbox password
POP3 (if needed)
- Server:
mail.<your-domain>
- Port:
995
- Encryption: SSL/TLS
- Username: full email address
- Password: mailbox password
SMTP (outgoing)
- Server:
mail.<your-domain>
- Port:
587
- Encryption: STARTTLS
- Authentication: Normal password / Plain
Port 587 works only with STARTTLS. If you select SSL/TLS on 587, sending will fail.
SMTP (alternative)
- Server:
mail.<your-domain>
- Port:
465
- Encryption: SSL/TLS
- Authentication: Normal password / Plain
Outlook (Windows)
- File → Account Settings → Change
- Incoming server: IMAP 993 SSL/TLS
- Outgoing server: SMTP 587 STARTTLS
- More Settings → Outgoing Server → “My outgoing server requires authentication”
Thunderbird
- Account Settings → Server: SSL/TLS
- Outgoing (SMTP): port 587, STARTTLS
- Authentication method: Normal password
iPhone / iPad (iOS)
- Settings → Mail → Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add Mail Account
- IMAP servers:
mail.<domain> (incoming and outgoing)
- Password: mailbox password
- Outgoing: SSL/TLS, port 587 (STARTTLS). If needed use port 465 (SSL)
Gmail app (Android / iOS)
- Add account → Other → IMAP
- IMAP: port 993, SSL/TLS
- SMTP: port 587, STARTTLS (Require sign‑in = Yes)
If you see a certificate warning for mail.<domain>, contact support so we can reissue the certificate.
